Water Supply And Sanitation Within South Africa - 1745 Words

Although there are a wide variety of contributing factors and issues related to water supply and sanitation within South Africa, some are more prominent than others. One of these is the continuously increasing amounts of people moving into the city from smaller areas and villages; these larger, more dense populations of people have also increased the water demand. To keep up and hopefully adapt to these largely increasing needs for clean and readily available water in the cities, many plans to prevent a more widespread lack of water supply and sanitation in these areas have been made. The issue is, however, that most of these plans have either not been funded, put into action, or completed. In addition to this, the structures that are currently in place are in poor condition or near collapsing. Some of these failed proposals include the construction of dams, to help maintain the water supply, and more advanced filtration systems to ensure that the water is safe for human use and cons umption. Lack of proper implementation and maintenance of plans to help with water supply and sanitation in more populated areas is, needless to say, a majorly contributing factor in the history of South Africa’s water crisis (Water). As water supply and sanitation is either non-existent or ineffective in cities and more largely populated areas, it is also struggling in rural areas such as smaller villages.
