His margin of victory over Herbert Hoover was the largest in recorded history up to that time. A Common Theme From My Research - 973 Words

A common theme from my research was that leaders lead by example. In some ways, I do this by being altruistic and selfless. I show others that I put their needs, concerns, and well-being before my own. This helps them understand that I care about them and will not do anything to purposefully bring them into harm. By doing so, followers know that they can trust and rely on me in situations. However, these are not good characteristics for management most of the time. I might put my followers before me and not be an adequate manager. My weakness of undecidedness is a flaw to this leadership trait. People do not want a leader who is afraid to take action and make a quick decision. Leaders need to be able to think quickly and make the best†¦show more content†¦I try to make everyone I work with feel appreciated, which is a good quality to have for both leadership and management. A common management trait that was mentioned throughout my research was the need for structure. This i s an area that I need to focus my attention on. I need to be able to set rules and policies for others to follow. I also need to be able to guide others in their daily tasks. I am well organized when it comes to my work and tasks, but not as much when it comes to others. I need to focus my attention on how to manage others and lead them towards success. This management skill is something I can work on even if I am not in a managerial position. There are some aspects of my job that I know better than other people and I can use this opportunity to teach and mentor them. This will provide great practice for when I am in a managerial position. I can use the trial and error method to see what works best for me and the people that I am helping and be able to use the experience as an opportunity to learn and grow. By culturing this from early on in my career, I can gradually expand my strengths and be able to take a managerial position with less worry. Apparently McDonalds has got a successful marketing and sales concept, which makes the company very interesting to write an assignment about, considering the roots of its success, debating about its ways to make me purchase again, although it obviously has got some â€Å"Pet peeves†. Explain about your scenario as a mystery shopper and what you did at the outlet It is Sunday afternoon, 4 o’clock when I enter the McDonalds restaurant. It’s not a typical dinner time; consequently the restaurant is not crowded. Nevertheless most of the many tables are covered, and there is a small line n front of the area, where you place the order. On the first view the restaurant seems very clean and you notice a strong smell of food and loud background music. As soon as I enter the outlet, i notice a various number of employees. 4 employees take the order, another 4 employees collect the order together, and approximately 3 employees are responsible of clearing up tables. Addition ally there is a bunch of employees cooking and preparing the food, and a couple of employees cleaning the sanitary fittings. It is impossible to give an exact number of employees, but there is definitely a huge amount of workers. Furthermore the employees wear a uniform. The greeting is short and not remarkable friendly, the employee makes the impression that he is pushing me to order as soon and as fast as possible. You find a big, easy watching menu board behind the back of the Seller, which makes it easy to find a suitable product. Consequently the employee won’t ask questions to find a suitable product, he or she only asks for an upgrade for bigger fries and beverages. Anyway I have to order on my own initiative. Finally I pay for my dish, without getting a student discount and find myself in another line, waiting for the food. After I have got my food I start looking for a table, which I find at the very end of the restaurant. It’s a nice place in front of a big window. Later I’ll figure out that the chairs are quite uncomfortable, but the first impression is good though. While having a suit I notice that my table is still dirty, so I have to wipe down the table by myself. Unfortunately my burger has become cold, which is an opportunity to ask an employee for an exchange. The employee surprisingly shows me a lot of understanding and exchanges the burger immediately. The new burger is surely satisfying. There is one remarkable point I must mention. The taste of the food is exactly the same taste as all the other times I had been at McDonalds; it doesn’t matter in which country or in which city. At the same time I notice that the interior is also pretty much the same. After we finished our food we found ourselves in front of a big bunch of waste, although we have just eaten two burgers and two medium-sized fries. Finally we left, without clearing up the table. Leaving the outlet is not commented by the staff. In summary it can be said, that the restaurant: †¢ Is basically clean Has got the same interior everywhere †¢ Strong smell of food †¢ Noisy †¢ Employees wear uniforms †¢ Seats are not very comfortable Describe the retail store’s customer service with your knowledge of Pet Peeves and 14 factors of company culture. The next level deals with the professed culture of an organization’s members – the values. Shared values are individuals’ preferences regarding certain aspects of the organization’s culture (e. g. loyalty, customer service). Basic beliefs and assumptions include individuals’ impressions about the trustworthiness and supportiveness of an organization, and are often deeply ingrained within the organization’s culture. Organizational behavior at this level usually can be studied by interviewing the organization’s membership and using questionnaires to gather attitudes about organizational membership. At the third and deepest level, the organization’s tacit assumptions are found. Had I not kept eye contact or nodded the person probably would not have been so open about the topic. Taking in everything that was being said was simple and challenging. The challenges range from deciphering the different feelings of how the person felt at the time, and now, and trying to keep up with the actual problem. Listening is more than just sitting and looking at someone while they talk. Being an active listener I reached out to be physical with the person as well. I showed them that I understood with just placing my hand on them, or a simple rub on their back. When it came to actually talking back and reiterating to the person that I understood it was more challenging because I had to tell the person what I got from what they said and how I felt about the situation at hand. When identifying with the person I had to explain how I felt at the time things happened to me. When being an empathetic listener you have to remember this is not about you. You are taking the time to help someone else. Even when you feel the time to talk to the person and let them know you understand. Choosing the correct words to use is quiet difficult. I found myself using the word â€Å"understand† more than anything. While trying to keep it impersonal though, it seemed that I was distancing myself from the person. So I had to find the perfect mixture between putting my situation out to the other person and not. When it all came down to it I found that being an empathetic listener helped build the relationship with the people I was actually talking to. When you actually sit and try to understand people you find that you become closer. I also found that there was a sheer appreciation for actually listening to the person. When a person has someone else to sit and listen to them talk about their situation or problems it helps them to relieve stress. During my conversation with my son I had to try and put myself in his shoes. As we set down and began talking my tone was very emotional, I am very angry about how he is living his life at this time. I want him to make some changes and I want to scream at him hoping that at some point he will understanding why I am pushing him to do better. I know at this point that if I wasn’t careful with my tone and the words that I use that I am going to lose his interest period. As we sat and talked I had to stop talking and listen to his reasoning for doing things the way he has been. As soon as he began to speak I got angry because I raised him better. I can’t help but to think about the moral and religious beliefs I have instilled in him that he seems to have forgotten. Even though I was able to listen to my son, I still can’t relate to where he is coming from however now I do have a better understanding. I have always had an opening relationship with my son where he knows that he could tell me anything. He knows that I may get angry at first but after hearing what he has to say, I will take a cool off spell and come back and talk rationally later. As I reflect on this conversation I realize that I have a habit of being overbearing and taking over the conversation and not allowing my son to speak. I start to wonder is how I conduct myself in all conversations. I know that my children and my ex-husband often say that there is no talking to me especially if I have made up my mind. This course has helped me to reflect on myself and work to change the things that I have been doing wrong so that I can communicate more effectively with others. I will still be outspoken and honest but I will try to be honest without hurting others feelings. I notice that it is not what I am saying but how I am saying it. I am more mindful to others as I speak but now I am focusing on listening as well. When I speak to people I want them to give me their full attention so I need to be willing to give the same in return. I believe that if I apply everything that I have learned in this course I will be more effective in both of my business where I deal with people daily. The two main components that I am effective in are Mindfulness and Ethics.

Baz Luhrmann had ask himself the question: if Shakespeare were alive today, how would he of made the movie. The expression he uses is putting Shakespeare on a billboard in Time Square. The film opens with a picture of a television screen switched off then, with no sound, clicks one with a few credits on the screen as if someone is changing the channel to find something that would interest them then clicks onto this channel with a newsreader reading out what sounds like news but is the prologue of Romeo and Juliet. While the newsreader is reading out this in the background in a box, where you would see a picture of a broken wedding band, which symbolises the broken love between Romeo and Juliet. Then uses a series of camera styles like rapid zoom and whooshing noise as it goes into the image of the newsreader, followed by dramatic music. The images then start whooshing onto other similar images of Verona and with this the prologue is repeated by the priest, with a more stern and authentic voice. Then it shows pictures of the cast with information about them. This is the introduction to Baz Luhrmanns film and with this he catches the viewers attention. He achieves this by giving the viewers a taste of the excitement to come by showing a few short clips of some if the film. This makes them hungry for more. In the first scene of this recreational play we start off with 3 men from the house of Montague, the Montague Boys, which we see at the start of the film accompanied with a big title saying: THE MONTAGUE BOYS and a rap style song repeating the words: the boys, the boys. They are achieving what Shakespeare wanted them to do originally going around being boisterous and rowdy but in a modern days style. In the original play the 2 men are just going around a market place showing off Baz Luhrmann pretty much goes along the same line of what happened in the original play but with cars, tall extravagant buildings, helicopters, sirens etc. Baz Luhrmann puts the Montagues in a petrol station where they meat up with there rivals the Capulets and recreates the confrontations with guns, which just so happen have the brand name of swords, rapiers etc. Its all very clever if youve seen the original play. Even though that Baz Luhrmann has changed the visuals and made the film more modern he hasnt changed the script he has still kept it in that same Shakespearean tong: thus, thou hast, knowest, thow etc. He did this for 2 reasons: 1 because if he didnt keep the script it would virtually be the same as East side story (another recreation of Romeo and Juliet) and 2 to bring a piece of the 17th century and stick it in the film to show people, of the modern world, how Shakespeare made his play. Baz Luhrmann kept the original scripture of the film; he did this so that he still kept the true nature of the play pure. In doing this he had to make the visuals far more stunning, majestic and exaggerated so as to make it so the audience could understand it through the visual image of the film. The characters in Luhrmanns films are very exaggerated so by looking at the way they act and speak you can instantly tell what kind of person they are in the film: The bad guy, the funny guy, the romantic guy etc. For example the two Montague boys are all rough and tough when they are talking behind the Capulets back but when they are face to face with the Capulets they are very jumpy and scared and also very comical at the same time. But the Capulet boys are much more mean and bullish. Abra a big scary looking character who strikes fear into the Montagues he also loses his temper and Tybalt. Tybalt being the main big bad guy of the film is very harsh and cruel he looks like a big gun slinger. He has a very stylised character his movement his whole style gives him a great sense of character even by the way that he speaks you know he is the bad guy. The complexity of the sound involved in Baz Luhrmanns creations is quite fascinating. At any one point in the film there are a lot of sounds being played for all the different types of things, which you can here, even in the simplest scenes. Many of the sounds are synthesized this means the sounds are created by a computer, this allows the editor to add in and take out sound with ease. Youll see an image on the screen and will be listening to a complex layering of sounds, which will all be playing at once. For example: footsteps, gunshots, whooshing and cars in the background, dialogue and much more. The music will change to the emotion of the person or the film. If you were to listen to all the sounds individually and added together you would be able to hear how the affects are achieved and see how complicated it actually is. All the sounds are stored on a sound deck and are then arranged and played at the times required. The film even has its own sound track, which was released into the charts and went number one at one stage or another. People listened to this and were deeply encouraged to go and watch the film because of what they heard from the soundtrack. Sound is used to enhance emotion and interest: the rap style music at the start of the film when the Montague boys are in their car, a cougar roar sound is emitted when the car revs its engine (this is used to give a sense of danger) Silence is also used to increase tension. Exaggerated sounds on small objects are also used for this purpose. Choreography is the word, which means style of the character and the movement of the character i. e. the style of the movement given out gives a sense of character. Tybalts style is very intriguing in the way that he moves almost like hes dancing. Tybalts movement is meant to be a sort of flamenco dance; he moves very fluently and gives a sense that he is an experienced gun fighter. The part when every thing goes silent and Tybalt comes onto the scene and all you see is boots which then crush on a dropped match and emits that horrible grinding sound. The way in which Tybalt moves embellishes his character. The Montague boys are very jumpy and scared and react with great movement this is called Pantomimic exaggeration. In the first scene 170 shots were used. The techniques used in the film were very much the same as the ones used in western films. The film was meant to be in a western genre, a spaghetti western. A spaghetti western is a sought of love story/ western. The camera techniques used in the film are very good at delivering different emotions or to increase/decrease tension. Big wide shots are less dramatic than the suspension given out by a close up shot. In the first scene there is a large variety of camera styles used, such as when Abra is confronting the Montague boys and the camera suddenly zooms in on his teeth with the word S I N inscribed on them, with camera is looking up at him, this terrifies the Montagues and then causes one of the Montague boys falls back into the car and the camera is looking down on him. When a camera is looking up at a character it is much more scarier than when a camera is looking down upon someone. Computer aided technology was used to help design the costumes for the characters in the film a photos was taken of the actor and the designs where then put on to the computer software to be mapped out and used so they could try samples on the actors to see how it looked and see if they liked it or not, in that context. The Montagues wore bright Hawaiian styled open t-shirts while the Capulets wore flat jackets and darker clothing in a more Latino style. They have also spent a lot of time designing the guns for the films, which symbolize the swords in the original play (thats why the gun brand is called swords). You see in the film the two buildings of both Montague and Capulet, this represents the focus on religious iconography shows that religion (the 2 families are both religious families and respect there religious beliefs) and the law are not able to maintain the battle, the confrontation, and the feud between these to households. Miami was used to shoot the film because of its Latino genre and its religious environment hot country- hot blooded. One of the major opportunities that Tata Motor faces is that as of right now 90 percent of China and Indias adult population do not own cars, partly because cars are costly and require more expenses after purchased. So the market for a low-priced car is huge which benefits Tata Motors perfectly since they produce the lowest priced car on the market. This is a huge opportunity for Tata Motors because if they can get their feet into that market of people that do not have cars because they cannot afford them, then they will make large profits down the road. Chinas total car sales are estimated at over 8 million dollars annually and they were the worlds second largest car market in 2006. Chinas government forecasts that demand for cars will top 20 million by 2020. With Tata Motors in the market with the cheapest car, Chinas demand for cars will probably increase even more significantly which will in turn increase sales for Tata Motors. As of March 2008 Tata Motors finalized a deal with Ford Motor Company to acquire the British businesses, Jaguar Cars and Land Rover. This is a huge opportunity for Tata Motors since they will acquire the large knowledge base and technologies for producing and marketing luxury vehicles. This acquisition helps them dive into the more mature markets in Japan, Europe and the U.S. The knowledge transfer from these two companies will greatly improve Tata Motors ability to continue to grow and flourish in both developing and developed market segments. Threats The obvious threat to Tata Motors is intellectual property rights. Tata invented the cheapest car on the market and every automobile manufacturer wants to know how Tata did it. Headhunters are soon going to find out this valuable information and make it available to their own company. This is a huge threat to Tata Motors because at first they had low competition, but once other car manufactures find out how they invented such a low cost car, and then these companies too will jump on board and design their own line of low cost automobiles. On one hand this can be a threat, but on the other it may not affect Tata Motors at all because people will still want to purchase their product since they were the pioneers of all the excitement. Another main concern that Tata Motors faces is that cheap cars in India will have an adverse effect on pollution and global warming because most of the population will be able to afford the cars.
